Demand Propels Home Prices Upward 2 days ago Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Launch UMBS On Monday, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac marked the completion of their Single Security Initiative with the launch of the Uniform Mortgage-Backed Security (UMBS).“UMBS is the result of close collaboration with FHFA, Freddie Mac, Common Securitization Solutions, and hundreds of housing finance stakeholders and we congratulate all involved on this achievement,” said Renee Schultz, SVP, Capital Markets, Fannie Mae in a statement. “We remain focused on ensuring that all market participants continue to make a smooth transition to UMBS and maintaining a highly liquid housing finance market.”“The UMBS is one of the most significant accomplishments in our decade-long effort to improve the U.S. housing finance system,” said Mark Hanson, SVP, Securitization, Freddie Mac in a statement. “Americans will benefit from the efficiency and standardization brought about by this new common security. The success of the initiative is a direct result of Freddie Mac’s collaboration with Fannie Mae, Common Securitization Solutions, FHFA, and thousands across the U.S. housing finance industry. We are grateful for their hard work, and we join them in celebrating this achievement.”Critics of the new Security argue that it may not lower mortgage rates as intended.  Some see the combined bond as “more than five-year process to unify a roughly $4.4 trillion pile of agency MBS currently split between the two government-sponsored enterprises.”“It already was the most liquid market in the world in many respects. What are they trying to fix, exactly?” Walt Schmidt, Head of Mortgage Strategies at FTN Financial in Chicago, told Bloomberg.According to experts, the final outcome can’t be said until today’s launch.“To some extent June 3 will be a bit analogous to Y2K, you don’t know if everything will be successful until after the fact,” Jay Bacow, head of Morgan Stanley’s MBS research team, told Bloomberg. He added that “the mortgage market is second to Treasuries in terms of fixed-income liquidity and it’s challenging for us to see it losing that distinction under UMBS.” Fannie Mae FHFA Freddie Mac UMBS 2019-06-03 Seth Welborn Servicers Navigate the Post-Pandemic World 2 days ago Previous: A Snapshot of Mortgage Market Performance Next: HUD’s Plan for Housing Counseling Services  Print This Post Data Provider Black Knight to Acquire Top of Mind 2 days ago Share Save June 3, 2019 4,592 Views The Week Ahead: Nearing the Forbearance Exit 2 days ago About Author: Seth Welborn The Best Markets For Residential Property Investors 2 days ago Home / Daily Dose / Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Launch UMBS in Daily Dose, Featured, Government, Market Studies, News, Secondary Market The Best Markets For Residential Property Investors 2 days ago Governmental Measures Target Expanded Access to Affordable Housing 2 days ago Tagged with: Fannie Mae FHFA Freddie Mac UMBS Servicers Navigate the Post-Pandemic World 2 days ago Related Articles Governmental Measures Target Expanded Access to Affordable Housing 2 days ago Subscribelast_img read more

Meet the only female candidate in Sudan’s elections

first_img71 year old Fatima Abdul Mahmoud is the only woman running in the race for the top political position in  Sudan’s elections. She was in 1973 one of the first women to hold political office in Sudan, and she contested the April 2010 Sudanese general election as the country’s first female presidential candidate.Fatima knows the race is not easy but she knows that her ambitions will push other women in Sudan to believe in themselves to run for the countries top job.She is a Soviet-educated professor of medicine and public health. Her Democratic Socialist Union Party wants equal rights for women in Sudan where the perception that women lack the qualities and experience to hold high office is deeply rooted.Parliamentary careerFatima was born in the mid-1940s. She studied medicine in Moscow in the 1960s and qualified as a paediatrician. She was in 1973 appointed deputy minister of youth, sports, and social affairs. Her appointment, along with that of Sayeda Nafeisa Ahmed al Amin as a member of the ruling Sudanese Socialist Union politburo, made international news at a time when contemporary estimates put the Sudanese female literacy rate at 10 per cent. She served in parliament for 10 years.Presidential candidacyIn April 2010 Sudan held its first fully contested elections (i.e. the first to include candidates from opposition parties) since 1986. Abdel Mahmoud’s presidential candidacy, along with that of two other aspirants, had in January 2010 been rejected by the Sudanese National Elections Commission, which claimed that Abdel Mahmoud’s campaign had failed to secure the necessary stamps on a required list of signatures endorsing her candidacy. Abdel Mahmoud and her supporters protested the decision, which they described as representative of a conspiracy against women, and her candidacy was reinstated by an appeal court before the election. Many opposition parties eventually boycotted the poll, claiming that it was rigged in favour of incumbent president Omar al-Bashir.Al-Bashir went on to win the election decisively. Election results showed that Abdel Mahmoud had polled 0.3% of the total vote.“Professor Fatima Abdul Mahmoud, presidential candidate 2015, my sign is the dove, I ran in these elections to prove that women have the right to high authority as president, that this was a successful experiment around the world.”Mahmoud is running as the lead candidate for the Democratic Socialist Union Party. She’s up against 15 competitors, including incumbent president Omar al-Bashir.Oservoers say President Bashir is expected to win the elections. NWPL: Five-Star Wins Grace Final Day As Delta, Nasarawa Complete Line-Up

first_imgAfter about five months of intense action that produced diverse outcomes ranging from expected to shocking, the regular season of the Nigeria Women Premier League has come to an end with the final matchday attracting even more attention. The line-up for the season-ending Super Four is now complete while relegation places have also been confirmed as newcomers make a quick return to the lower division. In Group A, the top two teams (Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels) had already been decided before the final matchday even as the basement team (Heartland Queens) seemed doomed already, so there was not so much to fight for on Wednesday – save for pride, maybe. However, Ibom Angels did not spare Bayelsa Queens in Uyo as they beat the group leaders 2-0 at the Itam Sports Complex. Midfielder Unyime Johnson got the opening goal in the 24th minute off an Emem Essien assist before Charity Reuben stabbed in her ninth goal of the season ten minutes from time to further cement her place as the highest goal scorer.Abia Angels played out a goalless draw with Sunshine Queens at home in Umuahia to finish the season second to bottom.Meanwhile, FC Robo Queens were on rampage against Heartland Queens, dishing out five unreplied goals. Captain of the side Rasheedat Ajibade – who had emerged champion of a freestyle contest days earlier – showed no mercy as she unleashed a hat-trick in the 7th, 17th and 35th minutes. Monday Gift completed the rout with her brace in the 30th and 80th minutes.Moving to Group B, Delta Queens’ second stanza blitz continued as they thrashed Osun Babes 5-1 in Kwale. It is disturbing that the Omoluabi Queens capitulated in such a humiliating manner knowing that they still had a shot at a Super Four place. But while things fell apart for them, Delta Queens – by virtue of goals difference – rose to the top of the table. The away side started with Anjor Mary putting them ahead but Ijeoma Obi restored parity soon after. Delta Queens got their remaining goals through Rosemary Okezie, who scored twice, Maryann Ezenagu, then an own goal from Rejoice Ikoyo.Nasarawa Amazons who were group leaders for most times in the season will now have to manage second place. A brilliant header from Adejoke Ejalonibu was enough for them to see off Adamawa Queens who also looked poised to pounce on either of the top two positions on final day.Confluence Queens had no hope of progressing but Abibat Agbaji and substitute Lola Phillips still gave them a 2-0 victory over Pelican Stars at home. While Edo Queens – in the presence of Edo State’s Deputy Governor, RT Hon. Phillip Shaibu – enjoyed a 2-0 victory over already-relegated Sa’adatu Amazons at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. The second half goals were from Regina Out and Vivian Uwandi.Attention now switches to the Super Four which would produce the winner of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Women Premier League season. It has been severally reported that it will take place in Lagos. However, a date is still to be decided.NWPL Matchday 14 ResultsGroup AIbom Angels 2-0 Bayelsa QueensAbia Angels 0-0 Sunshine QueensFC Robo Queens 5-0 Heartland QueensGroup BNasarawa Amazons 1-0 Adamawa QueensDelta Queens 5-1 Osun BabesConfluence Queens 2-0 Pelican StarsEdo Queens 3-0 Saadatu AmazonRelatedAndrew HjulsagerJune 30, 2017Similar postNWPL Matchday 11 Review: Three Away Wins Recorded As Super Four Takes ShapeJuly 13, 2017In “Nigeria”Marco SportielloJune 30, 2017Similar postlast_img read more

Viral outlet challenge on TikToc causing fire hazards

first_imgAddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to MoreAddThisTeens are getting quite risky with a viral video challenge sparking interest on the app TikToc.Teenagers from a high school in Massachusetts have taken part in the outlet challenge. It consists of partially inserting a cell phone charger into an electrical outlet, and then sliding a penny down the wall to the exposed prongs. We spoke to City of Alpena Fire Chief Bill Forbush about the social media trend. He says nothing good can come from doing this.“Metal is an excellent conductor, copper is a super conductor and that’s certainly a possibility of being a burn or receiving an electrical shock, and even a very small electrical shock at 110 volts in some cases [will] throw their heart into an arrhythmia, and even kill people.”It can also cause damage to wiring, and ignite full–out fires. The National Fire Protection Agency’s Vice President of Outreach says she hopes to communicate how dangerous this truly is. Chief Forbush agrees, and he has one simple message regarding the challenge.“Please don’t. Although I think many kids have done that, I think I might even remember doing it myself at one point. It is not a good idea. Please don’t.”AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to MoreAddThisContinue ReadingPrevious Alpena woman sentenced 10-20 years for sexually assaulting her sonNext Alpena man arrested in connection with 2018 overdoselast_img read more
