Viral outlet challenge on TikToc causing fire hazards

first_imgAddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to MoreAddThisTeens are getting quite risky with a viral video challenge sparking interest on the app TikToc.Teenagers from a high school in Massachusetts have taken part in the outlet challenge. It consists of partially inserting a cell phone charger into an electrical outlet, and then sliding a penny down the wall to the exposed prongs. We spoke to City of Alpena Fire Chief Bill Forbush about the social media trend. He says nothing good can come from doing this.“Metal is an excellent conductor, copper is a super conductor and that’s certainly a possibility of being a burn or receiving an electrical shock, and even a very small electrical shock at 110 volts in some cases [will] throw their heart into an arrhythmia, and even kill people.”It can also cause damage to wiring, and ignite full–out fires. The National Fire Protection Agency’s Vice President of Outreach says she hopes to communicate how dangerous this truly is. Chief Forbush agrees, and he has one simple message regarding the challenge.“Please don’t. Although I think many kids have done that, I think I might even remember doing it myself at one point. It is not a good idea. Please don’t.”AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to MoreAddThisContinue ReadingPrevious Alpena woman sentenced 10-20 years for sexually assaulting her sonNext Alpena man arrested in connection with 2018 overdoselast_img read more

Uphill tasks for Kotoko, Hearts of Oak

first_imgDefending champions Asante Kotoko and rivals Hearts of Oak will be involved in dicey duels as the 2012/2013 Premier League enters its 12th day this weekend. The Porcupine Warriors will trek to the Golden City Park as guests of Berekum Chelsea where as the Phobians will play host to leaders Aduana at their favourite ground, Accra Sports Stadium. The two games top the bill for this weekend clashes with more attention in the capital, where Hearts seeks for their first point in three matches. It even becomes more difficult against Aduana, who are 10-points richer than the Phobians and have yet to taste defeat in their last six games. The fact that the Accra Sports Stadium has become an unfamiliar terrain for the hosts after two losses in their last three games at the venue, adds to the worries of head coach David Duncan, who has let go some notable players such as Emmanuel Attakora Gyimah, Isaac Ofori and Douglas Nkrumah following the opening of the second transfer window.Embittered by the unusual results, Duncan’s popularity will further be telescoped in the eyes of the followers who are gradually losing patience and confidence in the team.Aduana will be no pushovers and the homers must cough out a convincing strategy to ‘douse the flame’ of the Dormaa lads. The unbeaten record of Kotoko faces yet again another stiff test from Berekum Chelsea, who boasts of a 100 percent record at home.At the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast, high-flying Ebusua Dwarfs are favoured to send Amidaus Professionals empty based on their current form. However, Professor Joseph Mintah and his charges can only afford to underrate their guests at their own peril especially with Amidaus’ Yahaya Mohammed on song with eight goals so far.Fourth-placed Medeama will engage Berekum Arsenals in a ‘David and Goliath’ affair with the former tipped to scoop the maximum points on the table at the Tarkwa T&A Park. Arsenals, have been off-color so far, and certainly do not appear to possess the antidote to silence their hosts.Liberty Professionals travel to Wa to face All Stars just as Heart of Lions storms the premier Port City as guests of Tema Youth in a match of equals.King Faisal have their own problems this season but have an edge over Real Tamale United and are poised to deepen the woes of the bottom-placed club. On Saturday, Edubiase slugs it out with AshantiGold in a regional derby at the Nana Gyamfi Park in Bekwai.last_img read more
