Marie passed away in DecemberTHE husband of a Co Donegal woman who fought a legal right-to-die campaign has just failed to win a council seat – by just 10 votes.Tom Curran, whose partner Marie Fleming, from Lifford, passed away late last year, said his election campaign had been “emotionally difficult” after he lost on the final council seat in Wicklow. The seat went to a Sinn Fein candidate. Mr Curran, who is continuing the right-to-die campaign, said he was overwhelmed by his campaign and how people wanted to talk about his Donegal wife during it.“It stupidly never occurred to me that people would want to talk about Marie,” he said.“I thought that other local issues would come up. I didn’t even think that people would recognise me but people did and it was their opportunity to give Marie praise.”He added: “It took its toll on me. The more I got out there, the more I began to miss Marie even more. Every night I would come back from campaigning and I would be absolutely devastated. “I can get back to taking some time to myself and grieve for Marie which is something that I haven’t had the opportunity to do yet.” RIGHT TO DIE CAMPAIGNER MISSES OUT ON SEAT was last modified: May 27th, 2014 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:donegalLiffordMARIE FLEMINGTom CurranWicklowlast_img read more
