Blast in firecracker unit kills 8

first_imgEight persons died and five were injured in an explosion in a firecracker manufacturing factory in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district, police said on Friday.The factory is located at village Rasulpur under the Civil Lines area of the district, 275 km from the State capital.“Seven persons were confirmed dead in the explosion,” said SSP Ashok Kumar. A police statement later updated the figure to eight.The factory had a licence to manufacture firecrackers, the officer said. The explosion caused the roof of the small factory to collapse on the workers inside, police said. The dead included the operator Sanju, 40.A government spokesperson said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced ₹2 lakh ex-gratia compensation for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the grievously injured.last_img
