some of his family members has stumbled upon “certain dubious transactions” in three different cases The transactions are now under the scanner of the agency that investigates forex violations On Wednesday the ED filed a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act ( PMLA) against Bhujbal and his kin Bhujbal is already facing a probe by the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) which has searched 26 of his properties so far According to sources the ED is probing a transfer of Rs 30 crore from the account of Armstrong Energy Pvt Ltd in Saraswat Bank to two of its wholly owned companies — Armstrong Global and Armstrong Infrastructure in Singapore Bhujbal’s son Pankaj and nephew Sameer Bhujbal are directors of Armstrong Energy “These two Singapore-based companies later credited Rs 8 crore back to the account of Armstrong Energy” said a person familiar with the ED case The ED is now probing the purpose and the beneficiary of the transaction When contacted Sameer The ACB has alleged that Bhujbal sanctioned the plot despite protests from the state government This the ACB claims was in lieu of the favour extended by him for the donations received from the company When contacted the Indiabulls spokesperson refused to comment saying the matter is sub judice However a source privy to details of the Indiabulls contract claimed that the company bagged the contract at a public auction as it was the highest bidder “Bhujbal cannot be privy to what Indiabulls is bidding” the source said adding that when the contract was awarded in 2010 the company deposited a bank guarantee of Rs 145 crore which in 2015 was around Rs 40 crore The source also said the donations made by Indiabulls to Bhujbal’s trust in Nashik was a part of the CSR requirement mandated by the Union environment ministry (MoEF) MoEF rules stipulate that a company should carry out CSR activities within 5 km of its proposed project “Since the Indiabulls power plant was coming up in Nashik the company decided to donate to the trust run by Bhujbal as he was the guardian minister of Nashik” the source added On the point of Indiabulls Realtech Ltd donating funds to the Bhujbal-run trust the reply from Sameer Bhujbal’s advocate stated “As a PWD minister Bhujbal had no discretion whatsoever in selecting the contractor The money given by the company was for philanthropic causes out of their CSR commitments” The agency is also probing complaints registered by investors against Mumbai-based real estate firm Devisha Infrastructure Pvt Ltd Pankaj and Sameer Bhujbal were directors in this company In 2010-11 Devisha Infrastructure collected Rs 40 crore from investors allegedly with a promise to give houses in a project called Hexworld in Kharghar by 2013-14 The investors have now taken the builders to court as the firm has failed to fulfill its promise “To register a case under PMLA we require a registered offence against the accused Our case is based on the two FIRs filed by the ACB and a case filed by around 200 investors against Devisha Infrastructure” added the ED source On the issue of complaint lodged by investors against Devisha Infrastructure Pvt Ltd the reply from Sameer Bhujbal’s advocate states that the complaint was motivated and that they are committed toward completing the project “The project is under MMRDA rental housing scheme wherein infrastructure such as water electricity and road is to be provided by MMRDA” it further added Both the agencies will submit their status report to the Bombay High Court on
